Labriola Baking Pretzel Rolls Review / Giveaway

Thanks to Labriola Baking for providing this product for review!

I love a good pretzel roll.  There's a restaurant in my area that sells sandwiches on pretzel rolls.  When we go there - which isn't that often, because it's somewhat expensive for what you get - I always get one of the sandwiches on pretzel rolls.   Yum!

I haven't seen pretzel rolls in bakeries in my area, but I've always wanted to try them at home.  So when Labriola Baking asked if I would try out their pretzel hamburger rolls, I jumped at the opportunity!

Labriola Baking's founder, Rich Labriola, knew that he wanted to start an artisan bakery with his first taste of authentic artisan bread. He studied with masters from the French, Italian and German methods of bread making, and then he created his own breadmaking style based on the best of each tradition. He created his own bread starters, aged his flour, and used special ovens, all to make the best-tasting artisan bread possible.  See this in-depth article about Rich Labriola from the Chicago Sun-Times if you want to learn more!

When I first received the pretzel rolls, I was surprised but delighted by their appearance.  They were golden brown throughout except for the tops, where the pretzel roll inside popped out, almost asking for us to dive in and eat it.  All of my kids clamored for one.  But I made them wait until dinner.

We cut up a few of them to eat as dinner rolls with our meal.  And I had a hard time getting the kids to eat their dinner, because once they had the rolls, they wanted more!

The outside had a light taste of salt - personally, I'd like a little more salt, but I can imagine that some are turned off by too much salt.  Plus, extra salt just isn't all that healthy.  The insides were tender, tasting like the insides of a pretzel, but with more depth of flavor.  We ate them without any kind of spread, and they were great, just the way they were!

I was surprised how fresh they tasted, as if they had been baked that day.  In reality, they had been mailed to me, so they may have already been a couple of days old by then.  Still, a lot better than any roll I've bought freshly baked at a bakery in my area.  The whole family loved them!

Another day, I used them as hamburger buns, slicing them in half.  I added one of my Black-Eye Pea Veggie Burgers to the bottom of the bun, and topped it with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise.

The resulting burger was delicious!  The salt taste of the pretzel bun accented the taste of my veggie burger and didn't get all soggy as a lot of buns do.  It was a great lunch!

I really enjoyed Labriola Baking Pretzel Rolls, and I'm sure all of their other products are delicious as well!
