Numi Organics Savory Tea Review
We are big tea drinkers here at the Frugal Follies household. I generally have a cup of caffeinated tea with breakfast - I started doing this after I gave up orange juice, because it has too much sugar and got way too expensive! And at night, instead of having a nosh, we often make a cup of herbal tea.
So when I heard about the Numi Organics line of savory teas, which combine tea with vegetables, herbs, and spices, I definitely wanted to give them a try!
Inspired by recipes from around the world, these veggie-spice-tea blends are rich in flavor, yet light enough to enjoy any time of day. Each exciting flavor is an adventure in taste: not quite a soup, but more than a tea. New flavors, never before offered in tea, include Tomato Mint, Carrot Curry, Fennel Spice, Spinach Chive, Beet Cabbage and Broccoli Cilantro. Delicious and satisfying, Numi’s Savory Teas have five calories or fewer, are Certified Organic and Verified NON-GMO.
My favorite tea flavor in my Garden Sampler was the Fennel Spice. I wasn't even sure what fennel was, though I know that chefs love to use it in all of those cooking competition shows. Turns out it is a plant that grows in a bulb that tastes similar to anise, the flavoring in licorice. The Fennel Spice tea also had the taste of orange peel along with green tea.
I also really liked the Carrot Curry. The carrot gave a sweetness to the tea, and the curry was very exotic. It definitely woke me up as well! I felt like I was transported to India with this tea.
I was surprised how much I liked the Broccoli Cilantro. I thought, "Broccoli in water? That can't be good." But it really worked, mostly because of the strong, fresh taste of the cilantro and other spices. I would definitely try this one again!
The Spinach Chive was good, but not as much of a standout as the previous teas. I think this tea would be great if it were used instead of water to cook rice or pasta - the food would soak up some of the tea's flavor. Yum!
I was a little disappointed by the Tomato Mint. Not that it wasn't good - it was! But I tasted mostly mint and not very much tomato. And the idea of the tomato tea got me reminiscing about drinking Tomato Cup-A-Soup on cold winter days when I was little. The tea, unfortunately, wasn't like those memories.
My least favorite was the Beet Cabbage. I thought beet was a great addition to tea, and it was sweet to drink. But the cabbage flavors just didn't work for me.
Overall, I really liked these savory teas, and I highly recommend them!

I love teas, I will have to try these out, thank you.
Tea is one of my favorite beverages. In fact, I have a cup of chai tea steeping right now.
