Publix: Huge savings on chicken and beef!
Hi readers! I strive to have my weekly Publix shopping post up on Thursday by 2 pm. This week's Publix ad offerings were pretty weak, but my shopping trip was absolutely amazing!
There wasn't all that much that I wanted to get from the ad. One sale that caught my eye was the BOGO sale on Welch's Light Grape Juice. With 2 coupons for $0.75 off one Welch's Light Grape Juice Beverage, that would have meant that each bottle would be 85¢. A great deal on juice!
But when I read the label for Welch's Light Grape Juice at the store, I discovered that it contained Splenda. Since I don't give products with artificial sugar to my children, I put the bottles back and skipped the deal.
Another deal that I skipped was for the South Beach Diet Snack Bars. At $4.79 and using this $3.00 off on any (1) 4 pack of South Beach Diet coupon, it would mean a box was $1.79. But the South Beach Diet Cereal Bars were on a BOGO sale for $2.99, and with this $1.00 off any box of South Beach Diet Products coupon, each box of cereal bars would be 50¢. (The $3.00 off coupon could not be used for the cereal bars.)
I compared the nutritional information of the two products and found them to be mostly the same. The snack bars had fewer grams of carbohydrates, but they also, unexpectedly, had fewer grams of protein. Frankly, the products appear to be basically the same, healthwise; I would assume the different size and packaging is solely done for marketing purposes. So, I did not buy the snack bars, but I did buy the cheaper cereal bars.
I wanted to bring my total above $25 so that I could use a $2 off $25 Doris Italian Market coupon, so I headed over to the kosher meat free-standing freezer at my store to see if I could pick up some chicken there. And that's where I hit gold.
I found boxes of Meal Market kosher chicken breasts, chicken nuggets, and meatballs for only $2.99 each. These boxes normally go for between $9.99 and $12.59 each! I took all of the package that were there, as well as a package of egg rolls that was also marked down to $2.99 - yummy Super Bowl snacks!
When I checked out, the cashier wanted to double-check the prices. I didn't blame her- it seemed too good to be true! She checked with the manager, who checked with the new meat department manager. The prices weren't wrong - the manager wanted to clear out all of those products so he could use the freezer space for another product.
So I got all this great kosher meat for 70-80% off! What a great savings!
