Shaklee Get Clean Household Mini Kit Giveaway

shaklee
Did you ever look underneath your sink to see what chemicals are in your cleaning products?

Go ahead, take a look now. You'll probably find chemicals like kerosene, phenols, cresol, lye, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, sulfuric acid, petroleum distillates, ammonia, sodium hydroxide, butyl cellosolve, phosphoric acid, formaldehyde, chlorine bleach, morpholine, and phthalates. Who wants all that under your sink and on the surfaces of your home, where your children and pets might find them?

I recently tried products from Shaklee, and I was happy to learn that Shaklee cleaning products have none of those chemicals!

Here's a video about Shaklee's Get Clean products:

I tested out the Shaklee Get Clean Starter Kit, pictured below.

I thought that cleaning my house for Passover would be the perfect test for the Shaklee products. Yes, they're safe, but are they effective?

Turns out, they are! The degreaser, combined with a microfiber rag, cleaned my microwave oven in nothing flat! Cleaning the microwave is one of my least favorite jobs because of all the splatters of sauces that exploded while heating up. With the Shaklee degreaser, I got rid of them super quick!

It also did an amazing job on my teakettle. Since it's situated next to the burner where I do most of my cooking, the stainless steel teakettle gets covered in grease and food splatters. Here's how well it cleaned in with the degreaser, the microfiber rag, and a toothbrush soaked in degreaser to get into the crevices, and less than 10 minutes of work:

 Before

After
(That's me taking the picture on the right, and my middle daughter standing next to me on the left)

I also loved using the Windows and Mirror spray to clean the mirrors in my bathroom, and the All-Purpose spray was great for general kitchen cleanups.

And, I liked that Shaklee products are concentrated. That means it's more frugal - less packaging cost and waste. The products' packages don't fill up landfills, and using each one eliminates 248 pounds of greenhouse gas that would be otherwise be created by similar products. That's the equivalent of planting 10 trees.

I really loved trying out these products.  They were effective and - dare I say - fun to use.

I have straight up bleach underneath my sink right now (with a baby lock on the cupboard, but uuuuugh, I need to get rid of that)! I need a green cleaning makeover because I have three small kids and we need safer, healthier products.

I have bleach along with some various acids (anyone for cyanuric acid derivatives?), and some actually green-ish wipes that are almost gone. And grubby grody pipes....hrm. Maybe I should do something about that.

I actually have only cleaning wipes, and dish detergent under my kitchen sink. I have swiffer stuff in my utility room, and I would love to be able to replace THAT, I have tried every incarnation of Swiffer, and I just don't think I like it at all.

I've got some bleach, and some toilet bowl cleaner. I just want to use non-toxic products to clean my home!

Kathy (K-Pom) April 14, 2012 at 9:28 AM

Pots and pans are under our sink, but I dug deeper and found from ugly looking j-clothes, and once I got past those I found our emergency fire extingusher. By this time, I was getting really brave and kept going, next up was petrified sponges - but I don't think they started off green, but they sure ended that way!!

Leah S,  April 14, 2012 at 11:06 AM
