Menu plan 3-19-12: Fridge and freezer cleanout

With Passover just a few weeks away, it's time to start focusing on cleaning out all the non-Passover food from the fridge and freezer.  That means not buying any more, and using up what I have.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Passover laws, during the eight days of Passover, Jews are commanded not to eat any of these five grains: wheat, barley, spelt, rye, and oats.  Among Ashkenazi Jews, who trace their heritage to Eastern Europe, foods that are also not permitted are corn, rice, lentils, beans, and peanuts.

Since I stockpile, there's no way I'll be able to get rid of all of the products containing these items from my cupboard.  But I do put them all away in one part of the cupboard and don't open that part during the holiday.

So I have some rolls I bought at ALDI on a discount; those will go into a breakfast egg casserole served at night.  And I have some beans and tortillas, which will become burritos.  And I have some ravioli which will be served for one meal.

Here's what's for dinner this week:

Monday - ravioli, salad

Tuesday - Breakfast Egg Casserole

Wednesday - Veggie Burritos

Thursday - mushroom whole-wheat pizza

Friday - roasted chicken, salad, challah

Saturday - leftover night!

Sunday - dinner out!
