Walgreens: Read the fine print!
I went to Walgreens yesterday, hoping to get a great deal: Buy 1 St. Joseph's enteric aspiring at $2.00, receive $2.00 in Register Rewards. My husband takes aspirin daily, so this was a great deal - especially since medicines are tax-free in my area, making it a true freebie.
And, I had a $2 RR from two weeks ago which expired that day, so my plan was to buy the St. Joseph's aspirin, pay with the RR, then get a $2 RR. Nothing out of pocket and an RR to boot!
But, of course, by the time I got to Walgreens, all the aspirin was gone.
So my next thought was to buy eggs there - on sale for 99¢ per dozen, a better price than ALDI's $1.29 or $1.39, depending on the week - and use the RR. And I was able to find three dozen eggs left in the refrigerator. But, it dawned on me while getting in line: The fine print on the Register Rewards say that you can't use Register Rewards to buy dairy items. And eggs count.
So, what to spend the RRs on? I quickly looked at the weekly ad and found 24 water bottles for $2.79. You can always use water bottles for emergencies, I figured. So that's what I got.
3 dozen eggs @ 99¢ = $2.97
1 Pure drinking water, 24 bottles @ $2.79 (with in-ad coupon)
Total product: $5.76
Pay with $2 RR from two weeks ago
Total out of pocket: $3.76
Total saved compared to Walgreens full prices: $6.00

LOL, what can I say? Great minds think alike: Friday Frugal Follies....love the name of your blog ;)
I just assumed the 'dairy' meant milk, because I have used the RR's on eggs before with no beeps at the register... Just an FYI ;-)
