Friday shopping: Publix, ALDI, and the produce store
I went a little AWOL this week... sorry! I did do my normal grocery shopping on Friday, but didn't get a chance to blog about it. So here's what I got this week at the grocery stores:
At Publix, I picked up four boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios. I had a raincheck from a sale two weeks ago, and I also had Publix and manufacturer's coupons. I also picked up some items for Rosh Hashanah that were on sale, but for which I did not have coupons.
4 Honey Nut Cheerios, 21.6 oz, @ $2.99 (with raincheck) = $11.96
- 4 $2/1 Cheerios (Honey Nut), Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Lucky Charms, exp. 9/30/11 (Publix Yellow Advantage)
- $1/3 Select General Mills Cereals, exp. 10/22/11 (GM 09/11/11)
= $2.96 for four, or 74¢ each
1 Vita Nova salmon @ $4.59
1 Manischewitz blackberry wine @ $3.50
1 10.35 lb Empire kosher turkey @ $2.29/lb = $23.72
Total product: $34.77
Tax: 21¢
Total out of pocket: $34.98
Total saved compared to Publix full prices: $31.07
At ALDI, I picked up the usual perishable items.
2 gallons milk @ $2.49 = $4.98
2 3-lb bags yellow onions @ 99¢ = $1.98
1 romaine hearts @ $1.99
1 3-lb bag Granny Smith apples @ $3.29
1 package green peppers @ 99¢
1 bag bananas @ $1.45
2 frozen juice concentrates @ 92¢ = $1.84
2 dozen eggs @ $1.49 = $2.98
1 5-lb bag all-purpose flour @ $1.79
1 brick cream cheese @ $1.29
1 lb butter @ $2.79
1 package chocolate chips @ $1.69
1 12-oz package shredded cheddar @ $2.99
1 container cottage cheese @ $2.19
2 whole wheat bread @ $1.29 = $2.58
Total spent: $34.82
The pickings at the produce store still are pretty slim - but they should be getting better as the Florida farming season ramps up in October. I hope, anyway.
2 bunches green onions @ 2/99¢
3 cucumbers @ 3/99¢
3 wrinkly red peppers @ 25¢/lb
3 not-quite perfect tomatoes @ 50¢/lb
Total spent: $2.98
