Frugal Food Thursday: 7-Spice Seasoning
Welcome to Frugal Food Thursday! If you have a great frugal recipe, please link up below!
I really love the ALDI frozen salmon. One of my most common lunches and dinners is to defrost a piece of salmon in the microwave, cover it with seasoning, and bake it at 400 degrees for about 12 minutes. Allow the salmon to cool, then flake it and serve over salad greens. Healthy and delicious.
Here's the seasoning recipe I use. My parents gave me a bottle of 7-Spice Seasoning that they had received from an acquaintance who started a spice-selling business. When I finished it off, I wanted to duplicate it myself. I had the ingredients from the bottle, but not the proportions.
So I did some internet searches on spice combinations with similar ingredients and set to work trying out different combinations. One thing I definitely wanted to do was to put less salt into the seasoning. I tinkered with it and I really like this version.
Of course, if you don't like one or more of the spices, try something different! I store it in an old spice bottle, ready to be used on salmon or anything else!
7-SPICE SEASONING
3 tbsp paprika
3 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp dry mustard
1 tbsp thyme
1 tbsp ground black pepper
1 tbsp kosher salt
In a small bowl, mix the spices together. Store in a 5-oz spice bottle. Sprinkle on fish or chicken before baking or broiling.

Great recipe, thank you for sharing :)
Thank you for hosting again.
Today I am sharing my Meatballs Stroganoff and Potato Sausage Casserole.
You have some wonderful-sounding dishes here! I'm adding Oatmeal Raisin Walnut Bars that are gluten-free, but can easily be regular if you use regular flour and regular oats.
Making your own seasoning blends is such a great way to save money - and to know what is in it! Thanks for linking to Fat Camp Friday, enjoy your weekend and see you next time! http://bit.ly/mTxy7l

Sounds good to me!
I love making my own spice blends. I make my own popcorn salt which is nice because I can change up the recipe and "freshen" up the popcorn.
