CVS and Walgreens: Why bother?
I took my regular Sunday trips over to CVS and Walgreens this week, but I'm not sure why I bothered. Here's my total swag for the two trips:
First, Walgreens. I intended to get this great deal on Dove soap:
2 Dove Men's Plus Care Bar Soap (6 pk.) @ 2/$12 (receive $4 RR)
-2 $4/1 Dove Men+Care Body and Face Bar, exp. 7/24/11 (RP 06/26/11)
= $4.00 (FREE after RRs)
I had a $4 RR from last week, so all I would owe on this deal was sales tax, and I would get my $4 RR back. What a deal!
But when I went to get the soap, it was gone - and this was early Sunday afternoon.
So the only thing I ended up getting was the free Milka chocolate, and an extra item which was meant for the deal above, but I ended up not needing, but bought anyway (we can always use more mechanical pencils):
2 Milka Chocolate Bars @ 2/$3
- 2 $1/1 Milka Chocolate Bar printable
- 1 $1/2 Milka Chocolate Walgreens printable
= FREE after stacked coupons
1 Papermate mechanical pencils 5 pk @ 19¢
Total product: 19¢
Tax: 20¢
Total out of pocket: 39¢
Total saved compared to Walgreens full prices: $7.18
Then it was off to CVS. I wanted to get this deal:
5 Lumene Day Creams (.5 oz) @ $3.99 (receive $5 ECBs wyb $20)
- 5 $4/1 Lumene Product, exp. 8/15/11 (SS 06/19/11 R)
= 5¢ moneymaker ($5.05 moneymaker after ECBs)
But (you guessed it) I couldn't find the Lumene products in my store.
So the only deal I got at CVS was:
2 Oral-B Indicator Toothbrush, $1.99 (receive $1 ECB each)
- $2/1 Oral-B Pulsar, CrossAction, Advantage, or (2) Indicator or Cavity Defense Manual Toothbrushes, exp. 7/31/11 (P&G 07/03/11)
= $1.98 (2¢ moneymaker after ECBs)
Total product: $1.98
Pay with $1.69 ECB from last week
Total after ECBs: 29¢
Tax: 24¢
Total out of pocket: 53¢
Total saved compared to CVS full prices: $5.69
Receive $2 ECB
So basically, the two trips were a bust... except for the chocolate, of course!

I couldn't agree with you more...VERY slow week! at CVS!
I hate that! I stopped shopping at Walgreens for that purpose - too frustrating! Although I did hear that they change their computers over to the new Sunday at sometime Saturday night, that we can call to confirm what time they do that. Seems like maybe we could shop Saturday evening then, and snag the sale items before they are out of stock at opening Sunday morning. Maybe that's why they are already gone?
And hey - it's not a total bust at CVS - at least they allow rain checks. Walgreens doesn't, which is why I prefer CVS.
Sometimes I feel like you do - how much Colgate toothpaste does one family need? lol Keep a good thought! Hugs!
It was kind of a slow week, but maybe next week will be better! Visiting from Simply CVS...
