Wednesday Weekly Shopping: Saving even more on produce

I invite you to link up to your best grocery deals below, to inspire others to save more!

My local produce store is fast becoming my favorite place to shop.  It's always full of surprises.  They have the usual veggies and fruits, but sometimes they have some surprises.  Like the buy one, get one free bunches of asparagus.  Or really, really, really fresh cilantro.

And sometimes, they don't have something obvious in stock, like lettuce.

And lately I've noticed them selling entire boxes of produce for really low prices.  I haven't taken advantage of those deals yet, since even if I shared the produce, it would be too much for us.  But since I've been boning up on canning procedures and recipes for Mango Month, I'm thinking that if I had the time, I could buy some of these great deals and can them.

Or, maybe I should get a freezer (I only have the one above the fridge) and freeze some of the great veggies for future use.

I don't know what I'll do yet, but I'm determined to work these larger purchases into our budget and diet sometime soon!

Here's what I got this week (click on the link below the picture for more details about the trip):

Produce store: Trip 1 (pictured) - $6.02 Trip 2 - $1.87 Trip 3 - $7.17

I also spent $11.98 at Walmart, purchasing whole wheat flour, kasha, popcorn, cereal bars, and butter.

Overall, this week I spent $79.30 for items which retail for $173.13, or a 54% savings based on the retail value of the products at the stores where they were purchased.  (But don't compare percentages!)  My real savings (how much more I'd spend if I bought those items at the lowest possible regular price in my area) was approximately $45.81.

For the year (21 weeks), I've spent $1540.58 for items which retail for $3040.93, and saved $1409.52, or a 49% savings. That's an average of $73.36 spent each week for a family of five (husband, wife, and daughters ages 13, 10, and 6), including lots of fresh produce, dairy items, and kosher meat.

See all my shopping here.

How did your shopping go this week? What bargains did you get? Please leave a link to your blog post about your weekly shopping. The aim is not to brag, but to inspire!  Please link up directly to your post, not to the blog itself. I'd appreciate it if you put a link to Wednesday Weekly Shopping in your post as well. You really do have a great produce store. I'm with you on the freezer, I only have mine below the fridge, and I sure could need the room....but I do not need the extra on my electricity bill.

What a great produce store, I love seeing the deals you get each week. It's nice to get other kinds of veggies than what Aldi stocks for cheap.Great job at CVS & Publix.I'm considering getting a freezer too, like you I only have the one above the fridge and it is always stuffed! I've seen some great frozen food deals and had to pass them up for lack of space.

Oh how I miss my freezer. We moved in January and couldn't bring it with us. Maybe we can both get one soon!
