Publix: How many is too many?
I made an unusual Sunday trip to Publix, since my youngest daughter was sick, and I didn't think I'd be able to go again before the sales week ended. (Alas, this has turned out to be true.) I definitely wanted to get some Quaker instant oatmeal, but how many to get? I had eight coupons, but should I get eight boxes? Or fewer?
On the one hand, we will eat all the oatmeal eventually, and it has a long shelf life. Plus the coupons might expire before the next sale comes around, and more coupons might not appear for a while.
On the other hand, I didn't want to go over my budget of $80 per week, and I had already spent $60 of it, with another trip to ALDI and a trip to CVS left to go. Plus, the coupons expire on 4/30, so there might be another sale available - maybe not at Publix, but at a different store.
I settled on four boxes. Did that put me over budget? Stay tuned.
I also got some Friendship cottage cheese - a great deal by combining store and manufacturer's coupons. And I got some I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, which was BOGO, though I didn't have any coupons for it, because my butter/margarine stores are running pretty low.
Here's what I got:
4 Quaker instant oatmeal @ BOGO $3.89 = $7.78
- 4 $1/1 coupons from the 1/2 RedPlum insert
= $3.78 for four, or 95¢ each
2 I Can't Believe It's Not Butter @ BOGO $3.19
= $3.19 for two, or $1.60 each
1 Friendship cottage cheese @ $2.39
- 55¢ off Friendship printable coupon
- $1 off Publix coupon - Yellow Advantage Buy flyer
= 84¢
Total spent: $7.81
Total saved: $16.52
