What I'm Reading: The Couponing Experiment

As couponers, we often get free or very cheap food for ourselves.  Many of us share our deals with our family and friends, too.  But why not take the next step and start helping our community as well?

The blogger over at The Couponing Experiment decided to challenge herself to donate $2,000 worth of food to her local food bank in the last five months of 2010.  (She was inspired by the blogger who did the Eating Well on $1 a Day Challenge, who also has another blog, Penny Experiment, where he documents his charity donations.)

Not only was she able to donate $2,000, she was able to donate over $5,000!  Wow!  She has set a goal for next year to donate $20,000 in food, while spending less than $100 out of pocket.

I think this is a great idea for a challenge here at Frugal Follies.  Not for February, though - my cupboards are getting pretty bare after participating in the Clean Out the Cupboards Challenge, so I'll need to concentrate on filling my own shelves that month.  But, perhaps I will take this challenge in March, to buy as much as possible with as little outlay as possible, and donate all of it to a local food bank.  Is anyone with me on this challenge?  Leave a comment or send an email!
