A frugal game

My five-year-old daughter came up, on her own, with a great idea for frugal game, and I just wanted to share it with all of you!

Several weeks ago, I was about to recycle an ALDI apple juice bottle, when she asked if she could have it.  I asked why, and she said that she wanted to make a bowling game out of it, with the bottle as a pin.

The ALDI apple juice bottle is a great size for this - it's stable enough to stand, but not so stable that a ball rolling into it would definitely knock it down.

So I thoroughly washed the bottle and let it dry, then recapped it.  She set it up, rolled a soccer ball at it, and knocked it down.

"Mommy,' she asked, "could you save me all the juice bottles so I can have more to play with?"

So, over the past several weeks, we've saved six bottles.  This weekend, she and her ten-year-old sister had a great time combining soccer and bowling, by kicking the soccer ball across the room into the "pins."

Though store-bought toys are great - and we certainly have our share of them - sometimes kids can just have fun with things around the house!

That's a neat idea! I would like to play it myself. Wonder if there's an old ball sitting around at my parents somewhere?

As kids get older they often take the same idea to the next level. When mine were teens and we were visiting the beach they filled the bottles with sand. Brought everything into the covered garage and on the rainy day held bowling with their friends!

When children are really small you can gear it further down as well. Using smaller ball or bottles or both.

Love it! My kids always grab boxes from Costco then decorate them with markers. Right now we have a tea party table, spaceship, and baby animal cave.

What a smart girl! Great idea!
When my kids were little and I used to buy milk in 1/2 gallon cardboard cartons, I saved the cartons, folded down and taped the pointed end, and we used them for big building blocks.
Always glad to have you link up...thanks!
