CVS: I cheated a little

Okay, okay... I'm doing the Clean Out the Cupboards Challenge this month and one of my goals was to only shop at ALDI this month... but I cheated and made a quick stop at CVS.

Why? I had $2 in ECBs that had to be used up by Tuesday, and I didn't want to waste them. I could have just bought something worth $2, but I had seen a couple of deals that I just couldn't pass up. Here's what I got:

1 Crest Pro-Health Complete dental rinse, 16.9 oz, $3.99
Buy one for $3.99, get $3.99 ECBs
= FREE after ECBs

Now, I thought I had a coupon match with the $2 off Crest rinse coupon from the 12/26 P&G insert, making this a $2 moneymaker. But, it turns out that the coupon is for 946 mL and above, whereas the sale was for a 500 mL bottle. Oops.

The second deal I just had to get:
2 Xtra 2x laundry detergent, 28 loads, $1.49 each
2 $1/1 Xtra laundry detergent printable coupon (prints in Spanish) - no longer available, sorry!
= 49¢ each after coupon

So I ended up using $4 in ECBs (all I had left), and spent $1.27 - 97¢ for the products and 30¢ in tax - for products worth $11.77, or an 89% savings.

Can't wait to get back to lots of CVS savings in February! I'll be announcing my new February challenge soon, and it involves shopping at CVS. Watch Frugal Follies for more information!

Ah, perhaps that is CVS strategy--have those extra bucks expire just in the nick of time. Can't wait to hear your new strategy--love that it includes CVS. Thanks for linking up your CVS shopping trip at Simply CVS.
